It's almost here!

I've always wanted to make a racing game, so I made the most out of this indoor time to make that dream come true and started working on WAVE RIDER.

It's been nearly a year, the game is almost finished and the steam page is up! I'm super excited to share this with everyone!

What is it?

WAVE RIDER is an arcade racing game. A game inspired by arcade gems like Outrun that had you fighting a timer and competing for the best scores and times.

My objective with this game was to make a hardcore experience that appeals to speedrunners and fans of time attack. The vehicles in the game, Riders, are drifty antigravity cars that attach to surfaces capable of using Waves to repair themselves, control time, and boost through streets. Find that perfect racing line and get the best time you can!

How long did it take?

The first sketches and prototypes were made in December 2019, during a little break I got from college, but after that break was over I barely got any time to work on it. Since I started doing college online on April, I've been able to work on it for the past 6 months, making the tracks, Riders, mechanics, music, and other assets myself.

How? Just how?

I could tell you it was coffee and dreams, but it really is about organization. Never underestimate the power of design documents and making your whole arquitecture scalable. Knowing how much game you'll make before you make it really helps with getting it done, and you'll wish you'd made that building easier to recolor... I do at least.

Music is specially difficult to make, because it needs to fit the game's tone and mood. Couple that with how spontaneously ideas have to come to mind and, well. If you can make music, try doodling on your favorite instrument first, and build from there!

What's next?

Well, I've yet to make some finalizing touches, but after release I'm planning on adding more content to the game. More stages to conquer, more Riders to master, and how about a VR stage? Sounds like fun!

This project means a lot to me and has worked to prove to myself that I can finish what I start, and I want that to be the message for current and future game developers and more creators out there. Believe in yourself! Start that dream project of yours and put your heart into it! There's nothing more fulfilling than seeing it exist.
